PROGRESSIVE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS

Dedicated to helping SDA's change the church for the better

Many of the articles contained here can be used to correct some of the many errors which are plaguing the current SDA church. There is a strong undercurrent within the body of the church from those who label themselves as traditional/ historical Seventh-day Adventists. While we recognize their right to believe as they choose, we would like to save the church from some of the consequences which their beliefs may cause. To return the church back on the path of growth and enlightenment. Leaving what is behind and pressing on toward the mark.

One of the subjects which the traditional SDA's like to talk about is their belief that at some point in time after probation closes (look for more on Probation later) Christ will cease his role as Intercessor. While this is a rather complex inter-relation between the SDA Sanctuary doctrine and the Investigative Judgment (again look for more later), this article is designed to give a more realistic view of just what Christ our Intercessor means.

In the Leviticus account of the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) many people feel that the Scapegoat is a representation of the Devil. The following article explains why the Scapegoat is more properly viewed as a symbol for the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

A lot can be said about the Law of God, it often leads certain people into a type of legalism which often hinders their Christian growth. While this article does not answer problems with legalism or many other concepts inherent in the different uses of the Biblical term Law, it still gives and important view as to how God and Law work together.

The nature of Christ is one of the hot topics within the SDA church, numerous books have been written on the topic. It is a baseless controversy created by certain passages from Ellen G. White. The following is a very brief article which shows why the conflict is unnecessary. Give it to your Sabbath School class and watch the sparks fly. Could Jesus Have Sinned

One of the most important elements of Christianity is the Atonement. Here is an article explaining how simple the Cross of Christ really is. The sacrifice of love not a debt to be paid.

According to the book Seventh-day Adventists Believe...a Biblical Exposition of 27Fundamental Doctrines, "the key to understanding time prophecies lies in the Biblical principle that a day in prophetic time is equivalent to a literal solar year..."(page 41). Is this really a valid means of interpreting prophecies in the Bible.

Does The Bible Support The Year-day Principle As Used In SDA Prophecy Interpretations?

One of the myths of the nineteenth century which is still popular in the SDA church is the myth that the Roman Catholic church banned the Bible. While the Roman Catholic church did many egregious things in the past she did not ban the Bible, she did denounce and persecute certain translations though. Here is a link to a pro Catholic site with a good article entitled: Did the Catholic Church Try to Keep the Bible From the Laity?

The Investigative Judgment is a unique doctrine of the SDA church. However it is without Biblical support and lacking in common sense. While the reason that it originated is very clear when one studies the beginning of the SDA church in the Millerite movement. Why the church holds on to it is another story. It is to some existent being altered in some sections of the church however. From the Good News Unlimited website comes this article:

One of the sad results of poor research is the book produced in 1854 by Alexander Hislop. The Two Babylons or Papal Worship Proved to be The Worship of Nimrod and His Wife is the result. While anyone who has taken the time to study ancient myths knows that the book is rife with errors it is beloved by many Christians who accept its information as fact. Read a review written by a former believer in this book and author who wrote his own book based on Hislops work.

The Two Babylons: A Case Study in Poor Research Methodology by Ralph Woodrow.

Adventists often speak of the "Robe of Christ's Righteousness". This article questions whether people are covered to hide their sins from God or is it better understood as the forgiveness of God?

Forgiveness; The Robe of Christ Righteousness.

The "Psalm on the cross" is a devotional which focuses upon the reference Christ made on the cross to Psalm 22, if you believe that Christ was separated from God on the cross and that is why He died, this may clear up that misconception.

The Psalm on the Cross

Many people have said that Sanctification is the work of a lifetime. It is a somewhat confusing statement This article may help make more sense of the statement.

Sanctification is not the work of a lifetime!

What does Psalm 51 really mean when it says that he was born in sin. Are the conclusions based on this verse an appropriate, or is it Proof text manipulation.
